The initial draft budget proposals, later withdrawn from the proposals taken to Full Council and deferred for a year, included closure with immediate effect of the three Historic Houses: Blaise Castle House Museum, The Georgian House, and the Red Lodge.  It was proposed that the closure would be short term, and be followed by discussions as to how and in what form they could be reopened as community assets.  It seems likely that the decision to defer the proposals for a year was influenced by an online petition with over 3,000 signatories.
